Mission & History
Our vision is to be a partner to young students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds and to support their personal and career development. We promote system changes to interconnect institutionalized education with work experience.
What is our mission? We support young people from children’s homes and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. They are encouraged to build their strengths through workshops, career consulting, mentoring or excursions to various companies. This helps them succeed in their careers and personal lives and to take matters into their own hands.
For 12 years, we have been a partner to young people from children’s homes and socially disadvantaged backgrounds as they begin their journey into independent life. Our projects promote equal access and provide young people with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate both personal and professional life independently. We help them discover and understand their strengths, how to integrate them into daily activities, and use them in finding the right career path. In the past three years, we have also opened our programs to students from typical families, which enriches the composition of participants. By doing so, we connect people from different backgrounds, fostering diversity and social empathy. At the same time, in the broader context, we are better able to understand the current situation in both school and extracurricular education and the challenges this generation faces. Over the years, we have supported more than 1700 children, provided continuous support to many of our participants, and collaborate with all 142 children’s homes across all 14 regions of the Czech Republic.
Country Information
The current population of the Czech Republic is approximately 10.67 million. Among them, about 6,400 children live in 142 children’s homes, with roughly 900 transitioning out of these homes each year. Another key demographic includes young individuals facing social disadvantages, though official statistics for this group are not readily available. Socially disadvantaged youth may include those in foster care, from single-parent households, experiencing financial difficulties, or belonging to ethnic minorities. ROZHLED will be based in Prague, the capital city, known for its accessibility and robust network of co-working experts and companies. Additionally, DIGI Rozhled will extend its services to children’s homes throughout various regions, with a special focus on reaching disadvantaged areas such as Karlovarský, Středočeský, Ústecký, and Plzeňský.
The Need
Young people in the Czech Republic face challenges transitioning from education to work, regardless of their social background. The education system often fails to adequately prepare them for career choices or provide insight into various professions. Disadvantaged youth encounter even greater difficulties, including limited guidance on study and employment opportunities and a lack of family support and role models. Emotional instability and low motivation further exacerbate their challenges, along with poor digital skills crucial for today’s job market.
From our 12 years of experience with students and our deep understanding of the Czech educational system, we have identified key needs:
– Career counseling and training
– Better orientation on study and employment opportunities
– Updated teaching methods that align with real-world scenarios
– Special approaches for disadvantaged youth, including individual support, structured programs, strong educator relationships, and empathetic guidance for self-discovery and growth.
The Project We Fund
ROZHLED is a mentoring project designed to help disadvantaged youth, aged 13–21, explore their strengths and make informed decisions about their education and career paths. Its goal is to enhance self-awareness, social skills, and hands-on experience, while reducing school failure and dependence on welfare. Developed over 12 years of work with diverse student groups, the project aims to improve job market integration by increasing awareness of career opportunities and job search skills. The project collaborates with CONCENTRIX for company visits and skill-based volunteering, including career mentorship and interview training.
DIGI ROZHLED addresses the digital skills gap in children’s homes nationwide by providing tailored events that boost digital literacy, including cybersecurity, and impact communication, information management, work habits, and organization. They aimed youngsters aged 13–21, as well as their careers and educators.
