Think Human Fund

Mission & History

The China Green Foundation was established in 1984 with a mission to promote national greening, maintain ecological balance, and foster harmonious development between humans and nature.

The organization focuses on raising and managing green funds, mobilizing society for forestry ecological protection, and enhancing international cooperation. Over the years, it has executed various successful projects like “Happy Home – Planting the Tree of Hope” to improve environments in ecologically fragile areas and elevate socio-economic conditions.

Country Information

The Populus euphratica forests, central to the China Green Foundation’s mission, are located primarily in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, particularly in the Tarim Basin. These forests also stretch into parts of Inner Mongolia and Gansu Province. Known for their resilience, these “hero trees” thrive in extreme conditions and are crucial for ecological stability and cultural heritage in the arid regions of Northwest China.

The Need

The project aims to address significant ecological challenges, including biodiversity conservation, desertification, climate change mitigation, and the promotion of sustainable development. The degradation of the Hu Yang forests poses a threat to various species and the ecological balance of the region. The project seeks to restore these forests, which act as natural barriers to desert expansion, and support eco-friendly livelihoods.

The Project We Fund

The Hu Yang Forest Ecological Protection and Restoration Project is a comprehensive initiative aimed at safeguarding and rejuvenating the Populus euphratica forests. Key activities include afforestation, water source protection, and ecological restoration. The project also focuses on engaging local communities through educational programs to promote conservation efforts and sustainable economic development through eco-tourism.

The Result

The expected outcomes of the project include the ecological restoration of the Euphratica forests, enhanced biodiversity, and mitigated effects of desertification and climate change. By engaging local communities, the project aims to support sustainable economic development, improve local incomes, and preserve cultural heritage. It also seeks to establish scalable models for similar ecological restoration efforts across other regions.
