Eliodoro E. Marasigan Foundation (EEMF)
Think Human Fund
Mission & History
The Eliodoro E. Marasigan Foundation (EEMF) was created to give back to the community of Barangay Inicbulan in Bauan, Batangas—the ancestral home of the Marasigan family. Its mission is to continue the legacy of Nicanor C. Marasigan and his son Eliodoro, who dedicated their lives to serving people in need in the community.
Over the years, the foundation has supported local residents through humanitarian initiatives focused on education and social assistance. Its long-standing commitment includes more than two decades of service to the community, scholarship funding, and continuous support for schools and elderly residents.
Country Information
The project takes place in Barangay Inicbulan in Bauan, Batangas, Philippines, a coastal community near Batangas Bay with an estimated population of 5,000–6,000 people and about 1,000–1,200 households. Residents mainly speak Tagalog/Filipino and some English. The local economy relies on small-scale farming and small businesses, while some residents work in nearby cities or abroad. The barangay has an elementary school and a high school that only offers up to grade 10, requiring older students to travel to another town for high school grades 11 and 12.
The Need
Many residents in Inicbulan face economic hardship, particularly elderly individuals who are widowed or suffering from health issues that prevent them from earning an income. At the same time, students from low-income families struggle to continue their education due to transportation and school-related costs. Because senior high school is located about 5 kilometers away, students often need to travel long distances daily, which can be financially challenging for families. These barriers create a strong need for financial support to ensure both basic survival for the elderly and continued education for youth.
The Project We Fund
The project will focus on a scholarship program supporting over 16 high school and college students from low-income families who demonstrate strong academic potential. These scholarships help cover essential education-related costs such as transportation, books, and school supplies, particularly for students who need to travel outside the barangay to continue their studies. The funding will enable EEMF to sustain and expand this initiative, allowing more deserving students to access educational opportunities.
The Result
By easing the financial burden on students from low-income families, the initiative is expected to improve access to education and enable more young people to continue and complete their studies. In the long term, this support will help enhance their living conditions and contribute to stronger community development in Barangay Inicbulan.
