Mission & History
Founded in 2008, CONCORDIA Bulgaria is part of the international Concordia Social Projects network. It works across underserved communities through service centers and outreach teams, supporting over 1,000 children and hundreds of youth and adults each year. Its mission is to support vulnerable children, youth, and families in Bulgaria by providing education and holistic care—helping them break the cycle of poverty and lead independent, responsible lives.
Country Information
Bulgaria faces high youth vulnerability, with unemployment exceeding 50% among marginalized groups and one of the highest NEET (Not in Employment, Education, or Training) rates in the EU. Limited access to education and weak long-term support leave many young people trapped in poverty and at risk of exploitation, highlighting the need for integrated pathways to employment and inclusion.
The Need
Young people at risk in Bulgaria face a critical gap between vulnerability and sustainable employment, with unemployment exceeding 50% among those from institutional care or homelessness. Many lack education, life skills, and support systems, making it difficult not only to find jobs but to keep them.
Existing services focus on short-term job placement, failing to address underlying barriers. This results in repeated unemployment and ongoing social exclusion—highlighting the urgent need for integrated, long-term support to build skills, stability, and independence.
The Project We Fund
The project supports 30 vulnerable youth (18–29) in Bulgaria through an integrated pathway to sustainable employment. It combines personalized case management, skills development, job placement, and long-term mentoring to help participants build confidence, gain employment, and maintain stable, independent lives.
Volunteer game-changers can contribute by delivering practical trainings—especially in digital skills and online safety—and by engaging directly with youth through mentoring and skills-based support, helping bridge the gap between training and real-world employment.
The Result
The project’s expected results focus on both employment outcomes and long-term social integration. Progress is continuously monitored through individual assessments, skills development tracking, and employment indicators such as job placements and retention. The project aims to support 30 vulnerable youth, with at least 50% securing employment and 70% maintaining their jobs for at least three months. Beyond employment, participants are expected to gain improved skills, confidence, and stability, enabling them to achieve greater independence and sustainable inclusion in society.
