Mission & History

Planet Water Foundation is dedicated to transforming the health and well-being of people in some of the world’s most impoverished communities by providing access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene education.

Established to address the critical need for clean water, the foundation has deployed more than 2,000 projects across 33 countries, impacting over 5 million lives through strategic partnerships with corporations and non-profit organizations.

Country Information

The Philippines, with a population of 113 million, faces significant challenges in accessing safe water. According to data from the UN and UNICEF, 53% of households lack a safely managed water supply, and 39% lack safe sanitation. In schools, these statistics are even more alarming, with 55% lacking safe water supply and 26% lacking sanitation facilities.

The Need in 2026

Access to safe drinking water is a critical issue in the Philippines, exacerbated by climate challenges. This lack of access affects health, increases the financial burden of purchasing bottled water, and impacts overall community well-being. Addressing this need can bring transformational changes, improve health outcomes, and reduce financial strain.

The Project We Fund

Planet Water Foundation plans to install 2 AquaTower water filtration systems in the Philippines to provide clean drinking water and hygiene education. This initiative is part of a broader multi-faceted program designed to bring environmental and behavioral changes through safe water supply, health education, and community empowerment. Each AquaTower can produce up to 1,000 liters of clean water per hour.

The Result

The project aims to provide access to clean drinking water and handwashing facilities for up to 3,600 direct beneficiaries. It seeks to increase awareness and knowledge of water-health and hygiene topics among school students, influence behavior change, and engage the community around issues related to clean water access. The success and impact of the venture will be monitored through photography on project days and evaluated over four years of post-project sustainability visits.

The Need in 2024

Access to safe drinking water is a crucial issue in the Philippines, further complicated by climate challenges. Providing safe water can transform communities by enhancing health and alleviating the financial strain of buying bottled water.

The Project We Fund

Planet Water’s program aims to drive environmental and behavioral change through several key initiatives. It begins with the installation of AquaTowers in schools, which supply 1,000 liters of clean water per hour, adhering to WHO standards, and include handwashing facilities. The program also emphasizes water-health education by teaching water hygiene, handwashing, and germ prevention through interactive lessons and AquaTower signage. To ensure long-term success, the program involves twelve post-deployment site visits over four years to monitor system operation and provide ongoing training, with progress tracked through an online system. Corporate engagement is fostered by collaborating with companies for volunteer opportunities and branding, where volunteers assist in installing AquaTowers and conducting educational activities. Community involvement is encouraged by engaging local stakeholders and training school staff, ensuring sustained support and maintenance. Additionally, the program incorporates the AquaSan system to disinfect school areas and provides reusable stainless steel cups to reduce plastic waste while promoting hygiene education.

The Result

Planet Water’s proposed program aims to achieve several key objectives. It seeks to provide clean, safe drinking water and handwashing facilities for up to 1,800 people daily at each project site. The program also focuses on enhancing students’ awareness and knowledge of water-health and hygiene, while strengthening their capacity to implement educational programs. Another critical goal is to promote behavior change among students to improve water-health and hygiene practices. Additionally, the program aims to increase community engagement on issues related to clean water access and improve sanitation capabilities in schools, creating a safer environment for students. The impact of these efforts will be assessed through photos taken on project day and ongoing in-person sustainability visits conducted by the Planet Water team over the next four years.

2025 Annual Report

The project benefited a total of 5,476 direct beneficiaries, primarily students and teachers in schools. The impact included the successful installation of four AquaTower water filtration systems, providing safe water access and hygiene education, significantly improving the quality of life for these communities.
