Responding to Crisis: Clean Water Support for Philippine Communities

December 3, 2025

Supporting Communities Through Successive Natural Disasters in the Philippines with Planet Water Foundation                                          Over the past four months, the Philippines has faced a series of powerful natural disasters—from typhoons to flooding and landslides—that have disrupted daily life and left thousands of families in urgent need of support. Communities across the country, especially in vulnerable coastal and low-lying areas, have found themselves repeatedly rebuilding in the wake of each new storm.

Amid this challenging period, Typhoon Kalmaegi (Tino) became one of the most devastating events, heavily affecting Cebu and surrounding provinces. In its aftermath, thousands of families have been working to regain stability and secure access to basic necessities—one of the most critical being safe drinking water.

Emergency Water Access for Families in Cebu
At the Talisay Sports Academy Evacuation Center in Cebu, 270 displaced families are currently taking refuge after the typhoon damaged their homes and local infrastructure. With local water sources compromised, the lack of safe drinking water quickly emerged as a major concern for evacuees, particularly for young children, the elderly, and vulnerable individuals.

To respond to this urgent need our nonprofit partner, Planet Water Foundation’s Disaster Response Team deployed an AquaBlock emergency water filtration system. This advanced unit can produce up to 700 liters of clean, safe drinking water per hour, ensuring that families have continuous access to one of the most essential resources for survival and recovery.

This intervention not only supports immediate needs but also plays a vital role in helping communities regain a sense of stability as they begin the long process of rebuilding. In addition, the Planet Water team deployed AquaTower water filtration systems in evacuation centers in Mohon Elementary School in Talisay City, and at San Isidro Elementary School in Barangay San Isidro.
